Atomic Liquor Store and Bar

917 Fremont St
Las Vegas, NV 89101
(702) 982-3000

Atomic Liquor Store and Bar, located at 917 Fremont Street, is the oldest original freestanding bar in Vegas. Founded by Joe & Stella Sobchik in 1952, the Atomic Liquors Store obtained the 1st package liquor license and sales permit. Atomic, coined for a time when visitors watched the atomic blasts sitting up on the roof, was built in 1945 and was then called Virginia’s Cafe. As the story goes; Joe grew tired of cooking, and the patrons appeared more interested in sampling his secret ingredient ‘Atomic Cocktail while witnessing all the nuclear blasts from the adjacent Atomic Test Site. In 1952, the couple renamed their business Atomic Liquors. They had a classically huge, wrap around bar constructed, and a unique landmark neon sign built that continues to shine today. In 2012, investors led by longtime Las Vegas Lawyer Lance Johns bought out the Atomic Bar from Sobchik’s son, Ron, and restored it to its original glory. Like many old time Vegas shows, Atomic has showbiz running through its veins – The Smothers Brothers and the Rat Pack drank here nightly after their shows, and the talented Barbra Streisand even had her own favorite seat which has been on display. The Atomic has a story, atmosphere, drink specials and free parking. So when you are headed to Fremont Street or Downtown Las Vegas, tell all your friends…Let’s meet at the Atomic!
