Grenada is located about ninety miles north of Venezuela. The island of Grenada is quite small, from top to bottom it measures 26 miles and is approximately fourteen miles across. The island offers a jagged coastline with picturesque beaches, dense rainforests, and a climate that is extremely mild. The legal drinking age of Grenada is 18. You must be 18 years old to purchase and consume alcohol when on the island.

Food and Drink Specialties

Most of the restaurants and hotels located in the country offer an international cuisine. These places serve a number of types of tropical fish as well as continental, English, American, and west Indian foods. The bars are stocked with popular spirits and wines. There are several local beers available as well as several types of brandy, whisky and rum.

Some of the food specialties of the country include:

  • Nutmeg ice cream: this is a local specialty as the island is known for its wonderful spices, which are exported.
  • Rotis: these are wraps that are made out of bread or pastry and then filled with chicken, beef or vegetables.
  • Oildown: this is a national dish that everyone should try during their visit. It consists of a stew that is made with celery, onion, carrot, breadfruit, and salted meat as well as daheen, which is a locally grown vegetable. The dish includes dumplings and all of the ingredients are steamed in coconut milk until all of the liquid is absorbed.
  • Calaloo Soup: Calaloo is a vegetable that is somewhat similar to spinach and the soup made with it is quite good.
  • Seafood: there are plenty of seafood dishes available throughout the island.

Most of the hotels and restaurants will charge a 10% service charge. If this is not added to your bill it is customary to tip at least 10%.

Some of the regional drinks include the rum that is made on the island using traditional methods. There is also a local beer called Carib available as well as other beers and alcoholic beverages.

Grenada Night Life

Grenada is home to reggae music and calypso music, both of which play into the vibrant nightlife the island has to offer. There is a great mix of international and local bars throughout the island that offer all types of entertainment. Many of the resorts on the island of Grenada offer night time entertainment for their patrons. This includes organized shows, cabarets, and even discos.

In St. George, the Reno Cinema is host to many different multicultural events throughout the year. There are also many films shown there as well. There are concerts held several times throughout the year by the Grenadian Jazz Society. These concerts are worth going to if there happens to be one at the time you are visiting the island.

During the second week of August Carnival takes place all across the island in many of the towns. This is a great time to visit the country as there is a feeling of festivity throughout the air.

Why would a small island as Grenada allowed Drinking to be “”AT THE AGE OF 18″”???…. The Law makers of the island needs to change it to 21, because at the age of 18 years old… you’re still a child.. I would like to comments more,…but I rather do it in person……
