Drinking Age in Lebanon

Lebanon is one of the best and safest places to visit in the Middle East. The country offers friendly people, great Arabic food, and is sure to please every type of traveller. The legal drinking age in Lebanon is 18. This is the age where a person can legally purchase and consume alcohol in the country.

Most people choose Beirut to begin their trip to Lebanon. The city offers a wonderful hodge podge of cultures that you cannot find anywhere else in the world. Jewish, Muslim, and Christian traditions are all lumped together and living peacefully. The downtown part of the city has been entirely reconstructed and it is possible to walk among thousands of people around the clock. There are also many great outdoor restaurants and cafes where you can simply take in the views.

Discotheques and nightclubs are common hotspots for eating and drinking late into the night. Prepare yourself to dress up and stay out all night.

If you are invited to a Lebanese home it is important to not bring alcohol with you and to not speak of it unless it is offered to you by your host.

Drugs and Alcohol

Although the majority of the population is Muslim, alcohol is still available in most areas. There is a strong cultural connection between the Lebanese and drinking wine, beer, and Araq. There are several brands of wine and beer that are made in Lebanon. Some of the brands that are made in the country include the lagers Laziza and Al-Maza. The wine area of the country is located in the Massaya area and in the Bekaa Valley. In addition to wine, these areas are known for growing illegal fields of poppy and marijuana.

There are also drugs widely available throughout the country. However, you should avoid partaking in any type of drug use as the penalties can be quite severe. If you are caught with drugs your home embassy will not be able to help you in any way.

Places to Visit

While the large cities of Lebanon are great to visit it is also a good idea to visit some of the smaller towns located throughout the mountains and hills of the country. Here you will find scenery that is simply spectacular. The people of these areas are extremely friendly and welcoming and you will enjoy some of the best food of your life.

The food, climate, and historical ruins, plus the fun night life all make Lebanon a great place to visit.
